The Warehouse
Written by: Sarah Valade
During college my mother and I went on a ghost tour of a warehouse in Ohio. During the tour I kept going off on my own to different areas away from the main group. The owner came up to the small group that was with me and asked if we weren’t enjoying the tour. I told him that they weren’t covering the ghost the right way and that I was having more fun on my own.
He asked what I was talking about and wanted me to explain in more detail once he got the history of the building. We went back through the building from the basement where a runaway slave girl named Sunshine who told me about the use of the building in the Underground Railroad. To attic where a three year old girl told me about her tragic accident falling down the stairs and dying.
In between I talked to Lester Finnefrock the old owner and manager of the furniture store and coffin shop that were once in the building. He told me about the old layout of the room and where the embalming was performed and where the wakes were held.
After going back through the building again with the owner he was impressed by what I was telling him. I was asked to come back and help run tours of the building. Being able to interact with many interesting spirits on a regular basis was a very rewarding time in my life and I miss it often.
